Welcome to the Phoenix Group
The Phoenix Group for Deaf Children & Young Adults is a charity working with d/Deaf children, young people and their families, providing services and supporting our members in Hertfordshire and more recently in Bedfordshire too.
We welcome anyone with any degree of D/deafness, sign language users and non - sign language users.
We provide children’s and family activities, youth and young adult projects including the DofE award scheme and life skills programmes, Individual and advocacy support, Deaf Awareness and British Sign Language training for families and businesses,
We are a Short Breaks Local Offer (SBLO) provider, and you will find our SBLO activities advertised on this page. If you live in Hertfordshire and your child is aged 5-18 years, you would be required to register as a Phoenix member and register for the Short Breaks Local Offer, information can be found below.
Bedfordshire families are required to register as Phoenix members, and you are not required to register for SBLO. Bedfordshire activities will cost the same as Hertfordshire activities but are subsidised by the NDCS Community Fund this year.
Upon registration, a Charity Suite account will be created for you, where you can book activities and edit your information. Please save your username and password as it will be required every time you make a booking.
We understand that access/transport is difficult for some families and young people, and we may be able to help within Hertfordshire if this is the case, please enquire.
We hope that you find all the information you need on this website, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions; we’re a friendly bunch! 😊
We've tried to make this website as deaf-friendly as possible. If you spot a blue hands icon at the top left of the page you are viewing, clicking on the link will display a BSL video translation of that page.
Hertfordshire Short Breaks
Short Breaks Local Offer (SBLO) is an initiative funded by Hertfordshire County Council for Hertfordshire families only. SBLO offer SEND children and young people aged 5-18 years the chance to spend time out with others socialising and participating in fun and educational activities, giving their families a break and providing them with the confidence their child is well cared for by appropriately trained staff. Parents of children under the age of eight years, are required to stay at activities with their child, over eights can be supervised by experienced Phoenix staff.*
Hertfordshire County Council provide Phoenix Group with funding so that we can provide subsidised activities for your child, all we require you to do is register for the Short Breaks Local Offer here and if your child qualifies, they will be entitled to 40 hours of subsidised activities. Phoenix is required to charge a minimum of £3.50ph per activity, although occasionally, we reduce or increase the cost to reflect the activities value. Evidence of your child’s deafness will be required if they do not attend a specialist Deaf provision.
*if your child has additional SEND, please discuss their requirements with us to ensure we are able to meet their needs. We aim to be inclusive but predominately we are a specialist deaf provision and do not have the expertise to manage all SEND conditions which may require experienced care.
